There were 1,583,200 union members working in Ontario in 2011. That’s 27.8% of all employees. Their weekly payroll of almost $1,624 million accounted for 32.8% of the total for the whole province.

On average, unionized workers earned $6.19 per hour more than non-union employees. That union advantage translated into almost $343 million more every week paid into the provincial economy to support businesses and community services.
