aboriginal workers

On June 21st the Canadian Labour Congress is standing in solidarity with Aboriginal and Indigenous workers and their families by calling on the government to commit now to implementing all recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

The CLC has long called for an inquiry into missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls and will continue to do so in the lead up to the federal election. Recommendations from the TRC also provide a comprehensive roadmap for addressing key issues for Aboriginal communities such as health, justice, education and child welfare.

“There are no excuses for the government’s lacklustre response to the TRC recommendations. This government must give Aboriginal communities the respect they deserve” says Hassan Yussuff, CLC president.

The CLC has produced the popular Aboriginal Rights Resource Kit in support of Aboriginal workers. The tool kit has been used to strengthen the voices of Aboriginal workers through caucuses, forums, conferences and workshops.
