The fair wages and work hours that unions negotiated delivered nearly $17.6 million more every week into the provincial economy through better paycheques for working women.
There were 50,000 women union members working everywhere in New Brunswick in 2013 – about 31.4% of women employees. They earned, on average, $9.16/hour more than non-union women because their unions negotiated fair wages and work hours.
Collective barganing and pay equity measures significantly reduce the gap between what women get paid for their time, compared to men when they work the same hours.
