The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) is seeking an Accounts Clerk Payable (Grade 2) within our Accounting Department.

This position is based at our Headquarters office in Ottawa, Ontario. Full-time presence in the office is expected, with some remote work permitted from time to time as per the collective agreement.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Processing bi-weekly expense reports according to established policies and procedures, following up as required.
  • Identifying discrepancies with expenses and reporting these to the Lead Accountant or the Assistant to the President and to the Secretary-Treasurer, where appropriate.
  • Reconciling all corporate credit card expenses and processing payments.
  • Processing monthly recurring expense entries for vehicle allowance and per diem.
  • Responsible for the petty cash (reconciles and balances).
  • Providing information for financial reports, as needed.
  • Ensuring electronic and print documents are filed in compliance with records management policies.
  • Processing accounts payable for the CLC, other funds, and the Labour College, verifying receipts, preparing summaries, arranging for international bank transfers.
  • Issuing monthly recurring payments.
  • Reconciling month-end accounts payable balances, printing, and filing reports.
  • Producing correspondence, reports, and other documents for the accounting department including formatting documents, manipulating charts and graphs.
  • Editing and proofreading documents reviewing for grammar, spelling, and
    re-phrasing.
  • Providing relief for the Accounts Clerk Payroll, as required.
  • Assisting with overflow work within the accounting department, as required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting Administration and three to five years’ experience in administration and accounting. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience with payroll and other basic accounting procedures.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and computerized accounting systems (e.g. ACCPAC or similar).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • English required. Fluency in French considered a strong asset.

The salary range for this position is $66,979.71 – $70,291.74, plus benefits under the COPE 225 collective agreement. This includes a four (4) day work week (30 hours), generous health, vision, and dental benefits, group life insurance and LTD coverage, pension, as well as fitness allowance, free parking, and other staff perks.
