Regional Director, Atlantic Region

The Canadian Labour Congress has a vacancy for the position of Regional Director in the Atlantic region. This positon is based at our regional office in Halifax, Nova Scotia; however, due to COVID-19, this work will be performed remotely until further notice.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• In collaboration with the Assistant to the President and regional staff, plan and coordinate the implementation of CLC policies, programs and campaigns at the regional and community levels;
• Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations and administration of the Atlantic Regional Office, including budgets, planning and staff development;
• Assign and supervise ongoing work of regional staff, especially as it relates to them servicing directly chartered locals and labour councils;
• Collaborate with labour councils and affiliates to coordinate educational activities, including the development and delivery of educational materials;
• Work with the federations of labour, labour councils and the affiliates on programs in the region, including supporting activities with social justice partners at the provincial and community levels;
• Identify new opportunities for coalition building in the region;
• Represent the CLC before non-labour organizations and government agencies;
• Other duties as assigned.
The successful applicant will have:
• a post-secondary education in a relevant field;
• a sound knowledge of the Canadian labour movement and our social and economic equality goals;
• a solid understanding of the regional structure, including labour councils, the education program and other regionally-delivered programs;
• the capacity to undertake general education assignments and to operate in a union education environment;
• demonstrated ability to organize campaigns in the labour movement and with our social partners;
• an understanding of electoral politics at all levels of government;
• excellent organization, administrative and communications skills, strong coordinating skills, and the ability to meet deadlines;
• the ability to integrate a feminist and anti-racist perspective into all aspects of the work;
• excellent research, writing and presentation skills;
• demonstrated budgeting and financial management skills;
• experience and the ability to lead, direct and evaluate the work of the regional staff team;
• excellent oral and written English communication skills are essential;
• the ability to work in both English and French is an asset; and
• the ability to travel within Canada and internationally (when safe to do so).
The starting salary for this position is $112,452.87 (plus benefits) under the collective agreement of the IAMAW Local Lodge 3111 CULR.
