If so, then the new LCC Certificate Program is for you!
First offered over 50 years ago, the LCC continues to deliver in-depth courses on issues related to work and the rights of workers in Canada. Graduates are equipped to take on leadership roles in their union, their labour council and the wider labour movement for the benefit of all workers.

About the Labour College of Canada (LCC)
Post-secondary level learning created by, for and with workers and their unions. For 50 years the Labour College of Canada has been a catalyst for leadership in the labour and social justice movements in Canada.

What is the new LCC Certificate Program?
A labour studies and leadership program for labour active union members that supports critical thinking and collaborative learning in a flexible format.
The LCC Certificate Program:
- Builds leadership skills and provides leadership tools
- Fosters empowerment, self-confidence and new networks of labour leaders
- Strengthens critical thinking skills
- Examines working class struggles and human rights issues that affect all workers
- Creates change!
How does the new program work? When and where are the courses offered?
Continuing on the success of the previous Labour College programs, the new LCC Certificate Program built on creating collaborative learning moments and student cohorts from start to finish. The new program offers greater flexibility by blending online and in-class learning.

- Political Economy
- Theory and Practice of Unions
- Labour History and History of Work
- Organizing and Education for Change
- Communications
- Emerging Issues for the New Working Class

The program is now divided into three sessions that can be taken in any order, in multiple locations. Each session includes an on-line and in-person component. All sessions will require preparation and reading and some work following each session related to an independent learning project (ILP).
The first group of students will begin their program on January 8 with four weeks of online learning, followed by one week-long course BC. Students then have two options for completing the program based on a 15 or 26 month completion plan as follows:

In-class locations for the above noted sessions:
- BC courses are offered during the CLC Pacific Region Winter School.
- ON courses are offered during the CLC Ontario Region Summer School.
* Online course dates to be finalized and may be subject to change.
Who should apply?
Union members from CLC-affiliated unions who:
- have attended one or more labour education courses
- are or have been active in their union (elected position, active volunteer, committee member, etc.)
- are active in social and economic justice issues in their community
Members of equity-seeking groups: Women workers, workers of colour, workers with disabilities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, intersex and Aboriginal workers are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply and Key Dates:
Application deadline has been extended to October 29, 2017 (11:59 pm local time)
Applications will only be considered if all the following items are submitted and received by the deadline date:
- Completed online application including an attached or emailed cover letter (here are some tips for writing your cover letter).
- (Optional) A letter of recommendation from your union sent directly to labourcollege@clc-ctc.ca. Use of the LCC template is encouraged.
Please note: LATE OR INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Tuition Fees
- for attending and completing the program in 15 months – $3000
- for attending and completing the program in 26 months- $3250
MEALS & ACCOMMODATION:
- $1000 to $1350 per week-long course (rates dependant on location and individual or shared accommodation)
- Childcare is provided free of charge at the week-long schools. However, there are additional costs for bringing a spouse or someone to care for your child.
RELEASE TIME & TRAVEL:
These amounts will vary, based on the provisions and discretion of each sponsoring union. They are determined locally, and not by the LCC.
