Supports and resources

If you have witnessed or experienced harassment and violence at work we recommend you talk to someone you trust at your union about your experiences, such as a union steward or representative, as they can offer advice and guidance. You are welcome to bring a friend or support person with you when you have this conversation.

The following services can also offer support and resources for workers who have experienced harassment and violence.

General Community Resources

Call 211 in all provinces and Territories to find support and services near you. 

Canada Suicide Prevention Helpline offers support if you or someone you know is in immediate crisis. You can call or text 1-833-456-4566 (24/7) 

1-866-277-3553 in Québec (24/7),  text to 45645 (4 p.m. – Midnight ET). 

You can report unsafe working conditions or employer reprisals by calling the Ministry of Labour at 1-877-202-0008. We recommend you speak with your union representative before making the call to get support and advice throughout the process.

Violence and Sexual Violence Support

Sheltersafe.ca is an online resource to help women and their children seek safety from violence and abuse. The clickable map is a fast resource to connect women with the nearest shelter that can offer safety, hope and support.

Hope for Wellness: 1-855-242-3310. Counselling and crisis intervention for Indigenous peoples in Canada available via phone or chat).

Trans Lifeline: 1-877-330-6366. Peer support phone service run by and for members of the trans community.

Nisa Helpline: 1-888-315-NISA (6472). Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET, peer-to-peer counselling helpline available to Muslim women of all ages.
